Haynes 188

A cobalt-chrome-nickel superalloy engineered for extreme high-temperature performance

About Haynes® 188

Haynes® 188, also designated UNS R30188, is a cobalt-based superalloy developed for outstanding oxidation and high-temperature corrosion resistance in extreme environments—up to 1095 °C. Known for its exceptional thermal stability, good weldability, and thermal fatigue resistance, it is an alloy of choice for gas turbines, combustion chambers, aero engines, and other high-temperature systems.

Its balanced combination of chromium, nickel, tungsten, and lanthanum provides long-term structural stability and excellent cyclic oxidation resistance.

Technical Characteristics & Composition

$

Cobalt-Chrome-Nickel Base Alloy

Haynes® 188 is primarily composed of cobalt, with additions of chromium, nickel, and tungsten. This balanced composition delivers excellent mechanical strength, oxidation resistance, and structural integrity in severe thermal environments.

$

Sustained Oxidation Resistance

The alloy performs reliably at temperatures up to 1095 °C, providing long-lasting protection against high-temperature oxidation in demanding thermal systems such as combustion chambers and gas turbines.

$

Excellent Thermal Cycling Resistance

Thanks to its ability to withstand rapid temperature changes, Haynes® 188 limits material degradation under severe thermal cycling—reducing the risk of cracking or premature wear.

$

Ductility at Room and Elevated Temperatures

Even under elevated temperatures, the alloy remains ductile, allowing safe forming and processing without compromising structural integrity.

$

High Creep and Tensile Strength at Elevated Temperatures

Haynes® 188 retains its mechanical performance under prolonged stress and heat, making it ideal for critical components in high-temperature conditions.

$

Excellent TIG/MIG Weldability

It offers outstanding weldability, particularly using TIG and MIG processes, simplifying fabrication and integration into complex assemblies.

$

Resistance to Combustion Gases and Corrosive Atmospheres

Thanks to its unique chemical composition, Haynes® 188 resists degradation from fuel-rich and corrosive gases, ensuring long-lasting performance in thermal and engine systems.
