Titanium Ti-6242
High strength, thermal stability, and reliability in the most demanding environments
About Titanium Ti-6242
Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo, commonly referred to as Ti-6242, is an alpha-beta titanium alloy specifically developed to provide excellent mechanical strength — particularly in terms of tensile and creep resistance — even at elevated temperatures (up to 550 °C).
This material is widely used in the aerospace sector for the production of engine components, critical structural parts, and elements subjected to high thermal stress. It is also valued in other high-tech industries for its corrosion resistance, thermal stability, and good hot formability.
Technical Properties and Composition of Titanium Ti-6242
Balanced Alpha-Beta Alloy Performance
Ti-6242 is a dual-phase (alpha + beta) titanium alloy designed to provide an excellent balance of mechanical strength, formability, thermal stability, and heat treatment capability.
Stable Performance up to 550 °C
Ideal for demanding environments, this alloy retains its mechanical properties up to approximately 550 °C, making it perfectly suited to high-temperature applications, especially in aerospace and energy sectors.
Excellent Creep Resistance at High Temperatures
Its ability to withstand slow deformation under sustained stress at elevated temperatures makes it a reliable material for critical components exposed to long-term loads.
High Mechanical Strength
Ti-6242 offers strong resistance to tensile stress, fatigue, and creep — even under severe thermal conditions — making it essential in engines, turbines, and propulsion systems.
Weldable with Appropriate Precautions
While weldable, this alloy requires specific procedures (inert atmosphere, post-weld heat treatment) to ensure joint integrity in critical applications.
Very Good Corrosion Resistance
Like most titanium alloys, Ti-6242 naturally forms a protective oxide layer, providing strong corrosion resistance even in chemical or marine environments.
Good Hot Formability
Ti-6242 can be effectively shaped at high temperatures, enabling the production of complex parts through forging or hot forming, while maintaining consistent mechanical properties.
Compatible with Strengthening Heat Treatments
Ti-6242 responds well to solution treatment and ageing processes, allowing mechanical strength to be optimised based on project-specific performance requirements.
